After drifting in space for 57 years, Ripley is rescued and brought back to Earth. She soon learns that the planet where her crew encountered the alien, LV-426, has been colonized by humans. However, all contact with the colony has been lost, and Ripley is persuaded to return to the planet as part of a military mission to investigate. 
She is accompanied by a group of colonial marines, led by Lieutenant Gorman (William Hope), and other crew members including Hicks (Michael Biehn), Vasquez (Jenette Goldstein), and Newt (Carrie Henn), a young girl who is the sole survivor of the colony.
