Beneath the still waters… something waits.

Marin (Isabel Gravitt) has spent years trying to distance herself from the memories of a nightmare she barely escaped — an encounter in open waters so terrifying it still invades her dreams. Hoping to help her confront the trauma, her therapist suggests an unconventional form of recovery: a therapeutic sailing retreat along the remote and icy coast of the Bering Sea. Though hesitant, Marin agrees, bringing along two of her closest friends in the hope that shared laughter and calm seas might soothe the wounds she carries inside.

For the first day, the trip is everything she hoped for — vast horizons, crisp ocean air, and the feeling of freedom that only the open water can bring. But the peace doesn’t last. A sudden, violent storm rises from the horizon without warning, battering their small vessel with towering waves. In a matter of minutes, the boat is capsized, and they are thrown into the freezing, unforgiving sea. The cold bites deep, their limbs stiffen, and panic claws at their minds as the realization sinks in: the waters here are home to more than just the cold. Dark fins cut the surface in the distance.

When all hope seems lost, salvation arrives in the form of a massive, rust-stained fishing trawler looming out of the fog. A silent crew hauls them aboard under the command of the ship’s captain — Jonas Creed (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), a towering, stone-faced figure whose presence is both reassuring and unsettling.

At first, Marin is grateful for the rescue, but unease soon creeps in. The crew speaks little, their eyes avoiding hers. Certain areas of the ship are strictly off-limits. At night, strange metallic groans echo from the lower decks, sometimes followed by distant, inhuman noises that seem to rise from the depths. Then there’s the ship’s catch — pulled up in dripping nets from black waters — things that shimmer and pulse in unnatural ways, creatures no marine biologist could name.

As the days pass, the boundaries between reality and hallucination blur. Marin’s friends begin to disappear, one by one, their belongings left behind as though they had never existed. Shadows flit through the corridors. Whispers travel through the steel walls. In her search for answers, Marin stumbles upon fragments of the vessel’s haunting history — and the terrible truth about what lies beneath the surface.

The sea, she realizes, did not save them. It delivered them exactly where they were meant to be.
